A Chitungwiza student is celebrating scoring 14 points at Advanced Level after just nine months, having been forced to fast-track lessons to reduce the school fees burden on his parents.
Nigel Kashangura, 19, is a last born in a family of five children.

He scored As in History, Family and Religious Studies and a B in Sociology.

“My parents had to do piece jobs for my fees. Last year I figured out that my parents would not be able to fund my tertiary education due to a lack of resources and this propelled me to fast-track my A Level.
“The situations at home propelled me to sit for exams in less than a year, and I also wanted to act as a role model to other students that, despite being in the schools which are looked down upon, success can also be achieved with dedication.”
He added that it was always his dream to defy trends.
“I have always had a drive to achieve more, and I aspire to be a role model for other youths facing challenges.
“I attended Dungwiza Primary School, where I was the head boy, and later completed my O-level studies at Zengeza High 1 School, excelling beyond my peers.
“I then pursued my A-level education at Zengeza 2 High School, a school often underestimated in Chitungwiza.
“With the support of teachers like Duma, Madam Watura, and Dzenga, and mentorship from Mike Sibangani Lungu, I wrote my A levels in just nine months, achieving 14 points and becoming the school’s best student.”
He added that he was inspired by people like Maud Chifamba, who was accepted to the University of Zimbabwe to study for an accounting degree at the age of 14.
“My goal was to secure a presidential scholarship, enabling me to pursue tertiary education despite financial constraints.
“I am inspired by achievers like Maud Chifamba and Mike Lungu, who also completed A levels in record time.”
Nigel said he is ambitious about attaining a first-class law degree from esteemed universities like Harvard or London University.
“I am also interested in real estate, motivated by Kenneth Sharpe and Robert Kiosaki.
“This achievement is a testament to my resilience and determination.”
