A wife of a police officer stationed at the ZRP Chikurubi Camp was reportedly electrocuted while using a washing line that was carrying electrical current.
The unfortunate incident occurred on December 18 at around 6 am as stated in a memorandum from the Officer in Charge of Highlands, officially recorded as a sudden death by electrocution.
The circumstances leading to this tragedy began when an informant filed a report about the electrocution incident at the ZRP Chikurubi Camp.
The informant, a neighbor of the deceased, witnessed the tragic event unfold at her residence.
On the day of the incident, around 6 am she observed the deceased doing laundry and the two exchanged greetings.
Shortly after returning inside her house, the informant heard the deceased screaming.
Rushing outside, she found the deceased lying on the ground, still holding onto the washing line.
In her attempt to rescue the victim, the informant also received an electric shock.
With the assistance of other neighbours, they managed to disconnect the deceased from the washing line and rushed her to the ZRP Chikurubi Camp Hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The deceased was the wife of a junior officer in the ZRP. Following the incident, experts from ZESA (Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority) examined the scene and confirmed that the washing line was transmitting electricity. They determined that the electrical current originated from a cable connected to the neighbour’s power supply, which was improperly routed to a foul run for lighting purposes.
The ZRP Highlands team attended the scene, where they noted signs of struggle and observed that the washing line had been pulled down.
The washing line had come into contact with an overhead electric wire from the neighbour’s house, leading to the tragic electrocution.
The body of the deceased was subsequently transported to Parirenyatwa mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
