Life in prison for double Gweru murder, Peter Dube

Peter Dube, who was recently convicted for fatally shooting his second wife’s alleged lover and best friend in April 2021, before fleeing the country, has been handed two life sentences in jail.

Dube shot and killed Shelton Chiduku and Gamuchirai Mudungwe.

He also shot his wife, Nyasha and her sister, Nyaradzo Nharingo, both of whom survived the attack.

High Court Judge Munamato Mutevedzi sentenced him on two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Although he denied the charges, claiming mental instability at the time, the court found him fully responsible for the brutal attacks.

He has been handed to two life imprisonments plus an additional 20 years.

The sentences are as follows

Count 1 (Murder): Life imprisonment

Count 2 (Murder): Life imprisonment

Count 3 (Attempted Murder): 10 years imprisonment

Count 4 (Attempted Murder): 10 years imprisonment

Dube, a polygamist who resided in Gweru and was a businessman, faced two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder after he suspected that his second wife Nyasha Nharingo, was involved in an extramarital affair.

Evidence presented in court showed that after an altercation at his apartment, Dube armed himself with a firearm, shot the two deceased victims who were seated in a vehicle and later shot the two surviving victims inside the apartment.

After the incident, Dube allegedly fled to South Africa, before relocating to Eswatini, where he changed his identity.

Dube then travelled to Ireland, where he was arrested in Dublin last year for violating the country’s immigration laws.

He was allegedly using a fake identity and when he was arrested in Dublin.

He refused to be deported to Zimbabwe claiming that he was a Mozambican citizen named Armando Quenete Muchanga.

The accused was then deported to Mozambique and authorities there established that he was Zimbabwean.

Dube was deported and arrested upon arrival at the Robert Mugabe International Airport in April this year.
