Individuals who will be found with gold without a valid permit will be arrested.
In a statement, police said, individuals and institutions found in possession of gold without a valid permit or license, in terms of the Gold Trade Act and Regulations administered by the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, will be arrested without fear or favour for the due process of the law to take effect.
The Police warning follows the recent arrest and subsequent conviction of Joseph Phiri for illegal possession of 3118 grams of Gold. He was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment, while the Gold was forfeited to the state.
