NetOne in court over US$1,2 fraudulent contracts

NetOne’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Raphael Mushanawani (60), has appeared at Harare Magistrates’ Court facing charges of fraud and corrupt concealment of transactions involving more than US$1.2 million.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), in 2022, NetOne contracted Farevic Systems Pvt Ltd for US$2.4 million to deliver and implement a new SAP ERP system, replacing the outdated SAGE 1000.

While that project was underway, Mushanawani allegedly engaged Lunartech Solutions Pvt Ltd to “upgrade” SAGE 1000 for US$1.2 million, despite the system being phased out.

Unauthorised payments of US$654,331.60 were made, and he entered into another contract with Diztech Pvt Ltd for SAP training worth US$79,467.49, even though this service was already covered in the Farevic deal.

These actions allegedly caused NetOne actual prejudice of US$654,331.60 and potential prejudice of US$625,135.89.

The matter came to light when it was discovered that the accused person had acted without the approval of the Executive Management Committee and the Netone Board.

Mushanawani was arrested on September 29.

He was granted US$500 bail.
