Vicious dogs maul 13-year-old girl to death

A 13-year-old schoolgirl was tragically killed by three dogs while returning home from school in Nyabira.

The incident occurred at St. Mannocks Farm on Tuesday, when the dogs attacked Caroline Chari.

According to Police National Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Caroline was walking with four schoolmates when the dogs suddenly attacked, chasing the children in different directions.

Sadly, the dogs caught up with Caroline, leading to her death.

The police have arrested the owner of the dogs, 50-year-old Gift Jambaya.

It is concerning that the vicious dogs were last vaccinated in 2024, and the owner ignored the 2025 rabies vaccination outreach programme organised by the Department of Veterinary Services.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is alarmed by the increasing number of vicious dogs allowed to roam freely without leashes or supervision.

Commissioner Nyathi emphasized that dog owners must prioritize public safety and comply with regulations.

To address this issue, the police have stepped up operations in collaboration with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, local authorities, and the Ministry of Health and Child Care.

They aim to effectively manage stray dogs and ensure that all pets in residential areas are kept safely.

The public is urged to report anyone who allows dangerous dogs to roam freely in streets and neighborhoods to the police.
