Another accident along Mutare-Masvingo road has claimed the lives of eight people.
The fatal accident occurred around 2 am.
This comes after another one, which also claimed seven family members who died along Mutoko road on Friday night while they were on their way to a tombstone unveiling.
National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed in a statement that the accident occurred at the 246-kilometre peg along Mutare-Masvingo Road, near Mutendi Complex.
“A motorist who was driving a Dragon bus with 20 passengers on board from Beitbridge to Mutare attempted to overtake a haulage truck laden with timber while there was an oncoming vehicle.
“Upon noticing the oncoming vehicle, the bus driver swerved back to his lane and sideswiped the truck, causing the timber to pierce into the bus.
“As a result of the crash, eight people, including the driver, died on the spot, while four others were injured.
“The bodies of the victims were referred to Masvingo General Hospital for post-mortem examination, while the injured were referred to the same institution for treatment.”
Meanwhile, the death toll from the fatal road traffic accident involving a Toyota Fortuner GD6, which occurred at the 46-kilometre peg along Mutare-Masvingo Road on 28th August 2025, has risen to six.
Two more victims died while admitted at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.
“It is sad to note that most of the accidents recorded between Friday and today where caused by overtaking errors on the part of drivers.”
