Sungura musician Herbert Majeke has released a captivating Jiti single titled “Sadza neChimonera,” which denounces drug and substance abuse among the youth.
The veteran singer and guitarist emphasises that this single is a must-listen, as it addresses the challenges faced by young people who fall into the trap of drugs.
In the song, he highlights the importance of parents spending quality time with their children, even amidst their daily hustles.
Majeke notes that often children are left sleeping at home while their parents go out to work. He narrates a story in the song where parents left their children asleep, only for the kids to wake up later and went to a nearby farm.
There, they mistakenly took tobacco leaves, thinking they are vegetables and prepared a meal.
Ultimately, they end up intoxicated and unable to function.
“Tiri kunotsvaga mari tichisiya vana vari vega.
“Mukasangwarira muchadzoka vapedza.
“Zvandirwadza, vakuru muripiko,
“Baba namai vakabuda pasi pari patema, vana vari vega. Vana vakasara vakaenda kumunda wetobbacco.
They got drunk.”
In this song, Majeke explores the theme that parents should not abandon their children on the pretext of working and hustling.
“The message is clear: parents should not neglect their children under the pretext of seeking financial stability.
“Many parents focus more on their hustles than on their children, who then become idle and turn to drugs.
“We want a generation free from substance abuse.
“I urge parents to make time for their children to prevent them from getting involved in drugs and substance abuse.”
The name “Chimonera” is simply a creative choice, adding depth to the song’s message.
