Harare-Two British nationals have been sentenced to nine years imprisonment for drug smuggling in Harare.
The couple of Tihaise Darlin Elisha (19) and Taylor Tamara Simone (21) were convicted and sentenced by the Harare Magistrates’ Court for unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), said the two were caught with dagga at the Robert Mugabe International Airport.
The offenders were initially sentenced to 9 years imprisonment, each of which three years were suspended on condition of good behavior.
NPAZ confirmed that the duo was caught with 66.415kg of dagga on May 1.
The couple, arriving aboard Ethiopian Airways Flight ET 873, were flagged by detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics after suspicious behavior and intelligence led to a search of their four suitcases.
The search uncovered a total of 53 packets of cannabis hidden in red and brown luggage tagged with the names of the offenders.
