A 48-year-old artisanal miner has been jailed after he bashed his lover over a private call.
He was found guilty by the Gwanda Magistrates’ Court of physically abusing his girlfriend after she had received a call.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority said that following a domestic dispute at their residence in Colleen Bawn on July 2.
He was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment, with 8 months suspended, resulting in an effective 10-month prison term.
The incident occurred around 7 pm in Vthe hovha mining area.
Circumstances are that the victim, a 45-year-old vendor, received a phone call from another individual, which she answered in front of the offender.
Immediately after the call, she deleted the call history, a move that aroused the offender’s suspicion.
Upon discovering the deleted call history, the offender became enraged.
He then assaulted the victim by hitting her once on the mouth and the back of her head with a stick and biting off a portion of her left nose.
