The Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (ZIMURA) has provided a much-needed incapacitation allowance to renowned Sungura musician Nicholas ‘Madzibaba’ Zakaria.
Madzibaba is having problems with his legs which are swelling.
In a statement, ZIMURA Director of Information, Media and Publicity, Alexio Gwenzi, confirmed.
“This payment aims to assist with his medical bills as he faces health challenges that have prevented him from performing and supporting his family.
“ZIMURA representatives recently visited Zakaria, who has been a member since 1990, to present this one-off payment.
“This initiative underscores ZIMURA’s ongoing commitment to its members’ welfare, extending support beyond just copyright protection.
“The incapacitation allowance is a vital benefit for ZIMURA members who are unable to perform or create music due to illness or other legitimate reasons.
“When notified, ZIMURA dispatches an assessment team to evaluate the member’s condition. If the criteria are met, the member receives US$500 or its equivalent.”
Gwenzi said, ZIMURA’s dedication to the overall well-being of its members is evident in a variety of other benefits, including gratuity provided to members aged 75 and above with at least 20 years of continuous membership.
“Funeral assistance, support for bereaved families during difficult times.
“Legal Advice, guidance on copyright and other music-related legal matters.
“Recommendation letters, professional and administrative support when needed.
“Copyright Education, empowering members with the knowledge to protect and manage their creative works.
“Free Digital Distribution, helping artists distribute their music to global digital stores without upfront costs.
“ZIMURA continues to stand by its members throughout their careers, honoring their contributions and ensuring they receive the support they deserve.”
