NetOne in tech-driven solutions to protect wetlands

NetOne’s group chief executive officer, Engineer Raphael Mushanawani, has called for urgent, tech-driven action to protect Zimbabwe’s wetlands.

He was speaking at the COP15 welcome dinner that affirmed the company’s commitment to climate resilience and environmental innovation in Victoria Falls on Thursday

The event marked a clear call for unity, innovation, and tangible solutions-firmly positioning NetOne as a driving force in Zimbabwe’s environmental agenda.

“Standing here is not just a personal honour, but a national statement, underscoring the Government’s focus on youth inclusion and environmental justice through the National Development Strategy.

“The wetlands are watching. And history is listening. Wetlands are not wastelands; they are wombs of life,” said Eng Mushanawani.

As COP15 participants prepared to adopt the Victoria Falls Declaration for Sustainable Wetland Conservation, Eng Mushanawani stressed the need for practical solutions over slogans.

“Technology, when placed in the right hands, can heal-not harm-our planet.”

He also said, as NetOne Pvt Ltd, Zimbabwe’s leading digital solutions provider, it is a profound privilege to address this Youth Welcome Dinner—a pivotal moment, hosted in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife, EMA, and the Ramsar National Youth Steering Committee.

We gather not only to break bread, but to build bridges—across generations, across borders, across ecosystems.

“At NetOne, we have chosen to respond not with slogans—but with solutions

  • Through IoT-enabled wetland sensors, we are turning data into early warning systems—because if nature sends signals, we must learn to listen.
  • Through our OneConnect Infrastructure, we are empowering cross-border collaborations, scientific networks, and policy interventions—because climate has no passport, and wetlands know no boundaries.
  • And yes, every delegate tonight received a NetOne e-SIM card. But don’t think of it as just a tech tool.
Think of it as a digital pledge—to connect better, to conserve deeper, and to innovate smarter.”

NetOne showcased new Internet of Things (IoT) wetland sensors-innovations converting environmental data into real-time early warning systems.
