A Mutare man has been jailed for 30 years for raping his 18-year-old daughter twice.
The 46-year-old man was found guilty when he appeared before a Mutare magistrate, where he was slapped with a jail term.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, it was proved that the first offence occurred in October 2024 when the victim had entered her father’s bedroom to collect blankets, and he blocked her exit.
Later that night, he approached her as she was sleeping in another room and raped her.
The second incident took place in November 2024 while the young woman was bathing. The offender entered the bathroom without permission and proceeded to force himself on her despite her efforts to resist.
The victim initially remained silent out of fear but later disclosed the abuse to a trusted friend in December 2024, leading to a police report.
The court found the man guilty on both counts of rape and sentenced him to 15 years per count, to run consecutively, resulting in a 30-year prison term.
Abuse committed under the veil of family trust is one of the gravest violations.
