TRM extends appreciation to Chinese Embassy

Chitungwiza-based young people’s movement Teen Rescue Mission (TRM) has expressed appreciation for the support from the Chinese Embassy.

The appreciation comes after the Embassy’s support in empowering youths in the fight against drug and substance abuse.

To complement the efforts, last Friday TRM met with the Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe His Excellency Zhou Ding at the embassy.

The meeting came after a formal invitation by the Chinese Embassy which was meant to acknowledge the efforts that the young people’s movement has been exerting to impact communities.

Speaking after the ceremony, TRM Director Mr Abraham Matuka said:

“Meeting the Ambassador of China was a privilege for us as we got the chance to talk more about youth programmes.

“It also aimed at how we can continue to improve the lives of young people in our communities.

“Many young people are getting into drugs because of different issues that involve peer pressure.

“Idolness, experimental, stress, and depression which is also resulting in young people committing suicide and all, and we feel we need to do more.

“We feel more of vocational and youth centres need to be put in most places so it helps our youth have something occupying them,” he said.

Matuka said, that as TRM they are elated by Chinese Embassy’s kind gesture.

“As Teen Rescue Mission through the support from the Chinese Embassy and other supporters, we have managed to put up a life skill training centre for the youths in Ziko Rural which is to start running on the 8th of May 2024.

“The classroom block we set is already full with youths coming and it tells us that surely a lot is needed to be done.

“Our resources stand to be so limited and on the school, we still have a lot to put up as most of the youths are vulnerable.

“So meeting with the Chinese Ambassador, we utilised the chance to appreciate the Chinese Embassy for their unwavering support to our endeavors, as we stand to fight for our future generation.”

Meanwhile, His Excellency Zhou Ding expressed great pleasure in the works of TRM saying “Glad to have Mr. Matuka and his TRM team at our Embassy.

“Deeply inspired by their tireless efforts in tackling drug abuse and early pregnancy issues in Zimbabwe.

“Great to partner with them and see our Embassy’s contribution bearing fruits in helping disadvantaged people,” he said.
