In a statement, President Mnangagwa said he is deeply saddened.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am deeply saddened by the tragic boat accident which occurred on Lake Kariba on Monday, which has claimed the lives of 44 compatriots.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn behalf of the Government and the nation, I extend our deepest condolences to the grieving families.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo ensure immediate relief, I have declared this mishap a National Disaster.<\/p>\n
\u201cRelevant authorities are already on the ground providing full medical, funeral, and psychosocial support to the victims and survivors.<\/p>\n
\u201cFurthermore, I have ordered our maritime safety agencies and security forces to immediately overhaul and fix the deficiencies in our maritime capabilities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must ensure our waters are safe.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thank the swift responders who saved lives, and ask the nation to join me in prayer for the souls of the departed.<\/p>\n
