An intelligence-driven operation between Kuilsriver Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit and Cape Nature led to the arrest of a 28 -year-old man while he had 150 live venomous scorpions.<\/p>\n
The arrest was made on June 12 at Cape Town International Airport.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the South African Police Service said.
\n\u201cThe members responded to information they received about a person who is in possession of scorpions at the Cape Town International Airport.<\/p>\n
\u201cA description of the suspect was obtained, and the suspect was apprehended.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis luggage bags were searched, and 150 live scorpions were found between his clothing.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was arrested under the Nature and Environmental Ordinance Act, being in possession of a wild animal.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe value of the scorpions is yet to be determined.<\/p>\n
The scorpions were transported to a haven for safekeeping.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is due to appear in the Bellville Magistrates\u2019 court on Monday, 15 June 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n
