ZIMBABWE has secured a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) following elections held this Wednesday.<\/p>\n
This marks a significant diplomatic milestone and a major boost to the country\u2019s international engagement efforts.<\/p>\n
The election represents Zimbabwe\u2019s third term on the Security Council since Independence and is being viewed as a strong endorsement of the country\u2019s growing role in international affairs and its engagement and re-engagement policy.<\/p>\n
The victory follows an extensive diplomatic campaign led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade under President Emmerson Mnangagwa\u2019s engagement and re-engagement agenda, which has focused on strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations across the world.<\/p>\n
Zimbabwe\u2019s successful bid was underpinned by high-level lobbying missions across Africa, Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, and the Pacific, as the country sought support for its candidature to the United Nations\u2019 principal body responsible for the maintenance of international peace and security.<\/p>\n
