<\/p>\nPejamatang Mining Company, led by Jameson Rushwaya, has emerged as a focal point for Zimbabwe\u2019s rural industrialisation agenda, transforming the small-scale mining sector into a hub for women and youth empowerment.<\/p>\n
As the country pushes for economic inclusivity under the Second Republic\u2019s developmental blueprint, the Kadoma-based firm is challenging industry norms by integrating marginalised groups into the core of its operations.<\/p>\n

In less than four months of operation, Pejamatang has employed more than 200 people, with 40 percent of them being women.<\/p>\n

Traditionally a male-dominated field, the mining sector in Zimbabwe is seeing a shift in demographics at Pejamatang.<\/p>\n

According to Rushwaya, the company has made a clear effort to go beyond just including women for appearance\u2019s sake, instead giving them important roles where they can make real decisions and create impact.<\/p>\n
\u201cWithin this short period of time, we have employed over 200 workers, with 40 percent being women.<\/p>\n
“We are breaking the stereotype by employing women across various departments, even in the underground, we have about 50 women who are in the mine. Women’s empowerment is at full play.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt this mine, we have started a journey that is in line with the Vision 2030.<\/p>\n
Female staff at the mine reported that this inclusion has provided more than just a paycheck, as it has fostered financial independence and the confidence to occupy spaces previously deemed inaccessible to them.<\/p>\n
Beyond gender parity, Pejamatang has become a vital lifeline for the youth in the Kadoma region.<\/p>\n
By prioritising local recruitment, the company addresses the challenge of limited job opportunities and also fights drug and substance abuse.<\/p>\n
\u201cDrug and substance abuse remains a serious concern in the mining industry, especially among young people seeking quick money without discipline.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have taken a firm stance against drug and substance abuse by making sure that we employ youths to keep them sober.<\/p>\n
