<\/p>\nPolice have appealed to parents, guardians, school authorities, transport operators and the general public to prioritise the safety and security of learners ahead of schools opening tomorrow.<\/p>\n
In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi urged all transport operators taking children to various schools to ensure that their vehicles are duly certified as roadworthy before use and movement on the roads.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cDrivers are reminded to exercise caution, avoid speeding and strictly comply with all road rules and regulations in order to prevent road traffic accidents.<\/p>\n
\u201cSchool authorities and transporters must ensure that buses and other vehicles used for the transportation of learners are not overloaded under any circumstances.<\/p>\n
\u201cParents and school authorities are advised to ensure that learners do not travel at night, as this exposes them to various risks, including road traffic accidents and criminal activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cLearners should not attempt to cross flooded rivers, streams or bridges, either on foot or in vehicles.<\/p>\n
\u201cSchool authorities and motorists are encouraged to closely monitor weather conditions and road accessibility for the safety of school children.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also advised school authorities and parents to deposit school fees and other tuition-related fees through financial institutions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis precautionary measure will help minimise the risk of robbery and theft, as keeping large sums of cash at school premises attracts criminal elements leading to armed robbery incidents.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Zimbabwe Republic Police also urged parents and the general public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious or criminal activities to the Police without delay.<\/p>\n
