Harare has recorded over 500 cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth disease (HFMD), with high cases in Mabvuku, Mbare, Budiriro, and Waterfalls.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the City of Harare is urging the public about the viral infection that is affecting children mainly under 10 years.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe disease is known as Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease (HFMD).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe infection is causing blisters on the mouth, hands, and feet. The disease may also present a sore throat.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe disease is spread through direct contact with the blisters and droplets, mainly from coughs or sneezes.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo far, 501 cases have been recorded mainly in Mabvuku, Mbare, Budiriro, and Waterfalls.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe disease is self-limiting and treatment is for symptoms.\u201d<\/p>\n
The public is advised to avoid direct contact with those showing symptoms, as it is a highly contagious disease.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo deaths have been recorded, and those with the symptoms are advised to report to the nearest clinic or hospital.<\/p>\n
\u201cTreatment for the disease is free at the City of Harare clinics.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe urge residents to immediately take children with symptoms of the disease to the clinic,\u201d said the statement.<\/p>\n
