<\/p>\nThe City of Harare, in partnership with Helcraw Water Pvt Ltd and Laison Technologies, has started the installation of the first phase of prepaid water meters at Birdcage Walk Flats in the capital.<\/p>\n
The project is expected to benefit 22 households at Birdcage Walk, while 28 prepaid water meters are also being installed at Calder Gardens.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Speaking at the installation site, Helcraw Water Pvt Ltd Chief Executive Officer Brandon Jere said the prepaid water system will promote responsible water usage and ensure residents only pay for what they consume.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis will be fair to residents as they will be paying for what they consume.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are also replacing corroded pipes and ensuring consistency in the water supply.\u201d<\/p>\n
Laison Technologies Vice President Clark Dai says his organization is assisting with the expertise on the installations.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have been training Harare City Council workers with expertise on how to install the prepaid meters.\u201d<\/p>\n
Zimbabwe National Organisation of Association and Residents Trust (ZNOART) national chairman Shalvar Chikomba, who hailed the development and urged residents to embrace the prepaid water meters.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a good move, and we urge our members to embrace this development.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs an association, we will pressure them to make sure they deliver on what they promised.\u201d<\/p>\n
