Zimbabwe Table Soccer(Foosball) Association will host Ghana for an international friendly match from August 10-12.<\/p>\n
The team from Ghana is expected to arrive today at the Robert Mugabe International Airport.<\/p>\n
Foosball which is popularly known as slug has been one of the major entertaining games at various shopping centres across the country since the country got its Independence years ago.<\/p>\n
Zimbabwe Table Soccer Association (ZTSA) president Coxwell Chigwanha said the match is more than just a sporting event \u2013 it’s a celebration of historic ties between the two nations.<\/p>\n
The country\u2019s top five players Douglas Matambanashe, Richard Choto, Luka Ngwarati, Noel Justin, and Sonny Sivare are expected to represent Zimbabwe at the tournament.<\/p>\n
Table soccer has been played as a professional game in Zimbabwe for the past few years now.<\/p>\n
In an interview, Chigwanha said this visit is expected to pave the way for future sports exchanges.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe visit by Ghana will ensure that some of our players are ranked in Africa and the world. “By defeating Ghana, Zimbabwe will become one of the top ten best table soccer playing country in Africa.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are also laying a foundation to launch our bid to host the 2026 Africa Table Soccer Championship in line with our country’s sport and tourism strategic vision<\/p>\n
\u201cThis event is being hosted in the month of our national heroes which is historic as Zimbabwe and Ghana share very important strategic historical ties.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the country that horned and consolidated the political experiences of our founding father the late Cde Mugabe where he interacted heavily with the late Kwameh Nkurumah.<\/p>\n
\u201cSecondly Ghana is an African powerhouse in table Soccer so this visit will be a precursor of future visits by other nations cementing Zimbabwe as a safe and hospital destination,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
