A Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management (ZimParks) ranger died after succumbed to injuries following an attack by a rhino.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred in the Sav\u00e9 Valley Conservancy on June 9, after Knowledge Mudzimureka, was attacked while on a patrol.<\/p>\n
ZimParks Head of Corporate Communications Tinashe Farawo, confirmed in a statement.<\/p>\n
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Knowledge Mudzimureka, a dedicated and valued member of our anti-poaching and wildlife monitoring team.<\/p>\n
“Knowledge tragically succumbed to severe injuries he sustained on May 26.<\/p>\n
“He passed away on Sunday, June 8, in the afternoon, after a two-week valiant fight for his life.<\/p>\n
“On May 26, Knowledge, accompanied by another ranger, was on a routine patrol, tracking a different rhino, when they unexpectedly encountered a mother black rhino and her calf.”<\/p>\n
According to the statement, the rhino cow severely injured Knowledge, who sustained wounds to his abdomen, particularly his left lung, as well as to his head, shoulder, and knee.<\/p>\n
“Knowledge was immediately evacuated on an ACE Air Ambulance and received exceptional care from the medical team at a private hospital in Harare.<\/p>\n
“He underwent two serious operations; on arrival to stabilise him, and a subsequent procedure to address a critical infection in his lungs.<\/p>\n
“Knowledge had started to turn a corner, and the doctors were expressing optimism and positivity, his passing has shocked our entire community with grief.<\/p>\n
“The burial service for Knowledge will be held on Wednesday, 11th June 2025, to honour his life and immense contribution.”<\/p>\n
