Jasen Mphepo Little Theatre in collaboration with Shingirai Manyengavana, is set to captivate audiences with its unique blend of poetry and theatre event, \u2018Makumi Matatu Spoken Word Poetry Session.<\/p>\n
The session is scheduled for November 2, at Jasen Mphepo Little Theatre at 6 pm.<\/p>\n

In an interview with the spoken word artist, Shingirai Manyengavana who is also the event curator shared his inspiration and vision for the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cMakumi Matatu was born from a desire to blend poetry with the expressive power of theatre.<\/p>\n
“Initially, I envisioned a 30-minute poetry session featuring my own work, but as I compiled my poems, I realized I had much more to share.<\/p>\n
“This led to the merging of a poetry session with a one-hander play concept that explores themes of teen struggles, mental health, and self-discovery,\u201d explained Shingirai<\/p>\n
Shingirai reflected on his life and achievements.<\/p>\n
\u201cMakumi Matatu serves as a creative outlet to explore these reflections, presenting them in the form of a one-hander theatre play inspired by poetry.<\/p>\n
“Our aim is to create an environment where poetry becomes a tool for reflection and healing,<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2019The theme \u201cExploring the Unexpressed\u201d was carefully chosen to address the feelings and experiences many people keep hidden due to societal pressures.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe that through poetry and performance, we can dismantle these barriers and foster authentic expression and connection,\u201d said Shingirai<\/p>\n
Batsirai Chigama, one of the headlining performers shared her excitement about the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am excited that poets are organizing events for the public.<\/p>\n
“It shows their commitment to the craft and provides a platform to see what others are doing and take notes.\u201d<\/p>\n
When asked about the theme \u201cExploring the Unexpressed,\u201d she noted that<\/p>\n
\u201cIt speaks to taboo or less talked about issues, addressing truth in various situations\u2014be it political or societal.\u201d<\/p>\n
