{"id":1521,"date":"2024-06-28T20:14:07","date_gmt":"2024-06-28T20:14:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zimdailyjournal.co.zw\/?p=1521"},"modified":"2024-07-01T23:15:42","modified_gmt":"2024-07-01T23:15:42","slug":"jailed-60years-for-rape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zimdailyjournal.co.zw\/index.php\/2024\/06\/28\/jailed-60years-for-rape\/","title":{"rendered":"Man who raped four victims including grade 7 pupil jailed 60 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 30-year-old man who had been raping women giving them an option of death and life has been sentenced to 60 years imprisonment.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The man from Chief Nyakunhuwa area in Zaka was jailed by a Chiredzi Magistrate on four counts of rape.<\/p>\n<p>He was initially sentenced to 15 years on each count of which 30 years were suspended.<\/p>\n<p>The accused will serve 30 years effectively.<\/p>\n<p>On an unknown date in April, 2021 at about 12 pm, the accused found the complainant (13), a grade 7 pupil, fetching firewood in a bush near their homestead.<\/p>\n<p>He knocked down a bunch of firewood she was carrying, before tripping her to the ground.<\/p>\n<p>He produced an okapi knife before raping her.<\/p>\n<p>The complainant did not tell anyone.<\/p>\n<p>In June 2021, the accused person found the complainant at home sweeping the house, he produced the okapi knife and threatened to kill her.<\/p>\n<p>He pushed her onto a mattress which was in the room and raped her once.<\/p>\n<p>The complainant informed her aunt who in turn informed the complainant&#8217;s grandmother about the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Her grandmother ordered them not to reveal the matter to anyone.<br \/>\nThe accused person raped the complainant on two more occasions.<\/p>\n<p>Sometime in August 2021, the complainant with the help of her aunt, informed the grandmother about the incident.<\/p>\n<p>But the grandmother concealed the matter again.<\/p>\n<p>In August 2023, the complainant&#8217;s mother came from Harare where she resides with the complainant&#8217;s father and the complainant confided in her mother.<\/p>\n<p>A police report was made.<br \/>\nIn September 2021, the accused person raped another complainant (42).<\/p>\n<p>The victim was on her way back from the borehole.<\/p>\n<p>She noticed the accused person who had a habit of following her, behind her and tried to run away but was caught.<\/p>\n<p>He grabbed her from behind, produced an okapi knife, and ordered her to choose between life and death before raping her once.<\/p>\n<p>Read more stories @ <a href=\"https:\/\/zimdailyjournal.co.zw\/\">Zimdaily Journal<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Also Visit us on our Facebook Page @ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ZimDailyJournal\">ZimDailyJournal<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A 30-year-old man who had been raping women giving them an option of death and life has been sentenced to 60 years imprisonment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":1535,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[32],"tags":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-1521","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-crime-and-courts-zimbabwe"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
